On March 25, 2022, the event “RoMare – Rome Capital of a Maritime Country?” was held at Palazzo Colonna, organized by Shipping 4.0 and Confitarma – Confederazione Italiana Armatori.
During the panel discussion “Rome at the Center of Maritime Training and Employment,” Fabrizio Monticelli, Chief Executive Officer of ForMare, spoke. Dr. Monticelli highlighted how the new challenges affecting the maritime sector across the board, particularly ecological and digital transition, are at the heart of the shipping industry’s needs. In fact, ForMare aims to identify new professional figures who can respond to these needs, developing new skills through ad hoc training paths. A virtuous example reported by the CEO concerns the project I.S.A.B.E.L.LA. – Io Sono Acqua Building Environment LLAb, which aims to develop skills related to the creation of two professional figures, respectively on-board and onshore, in the green economy: Environmental Officer and Environmental Manager.
In addition, Fabrizio Monticelli emphasized how, through participation in European programming, an established network can be created at the international level in order to pursue the following objectives: to reduce the gap between educational offerings and labor market needs; to increase interaction between the business world and the world of research; to improve communication and cooperation between training centers and industry; and to spread career opportunities in the blue economy among the younger generation.
